Tiago de Oliveira

José Tiago de Oliveira, born on December 22, 1928, in Lourenço Marques (Mozambique), was one of the founding members of the SPE (Portuguese Society of Statistics), its first President, and a leading figure in Portuguese Statistics, with fundamental contributions to the development of the field, particularly in the theory of extreme values.


José Tiago da Fonseca Oliveira (1928-1992). Studied Mathematics at Oporto, Portugal. Professor in Lisbon at Universidade de Lisboa and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Member of Academia das Ciências. One of the founders of Partido Socialista. Secretary for Scientific Research in the first Constitutional Government.

 
Reconhecido internacionalmente pela relevância da sua obra científica, J. Tiago de Oliveira deixou um legado marcante na investigação, no ensino e na promoção da Estatística enquanto disciplina científica autónoma. O seu centenário será celebrado em 2028.
